Microsoft Word 2003 freezes when starting?

When I try to open Microsoft Word 2003 it freezes it just says Microsoft Word 2003 and it doesn't go any further. is there any free way to fix the problem and my nortan anti-virus expired and i dont have the microsoft office disk to install microsoft office b/c when i purchased the computer microsoft office 2003 was already installed and dont need the disk and i dont want to buy a disk if i had to.
